Texas is great! Especially playing Texas Hold ’em with friends while in Texas.
We visit Bob’s nephew Michael, Michael’s wife Pam, their children, and Michael’s father Ronny. Great catching up on their lives.
Benbrook State Park has very nice roads, excellent for bicycling, so we enjoy a scenic ride near the lake.
Northward from Texas into Oklahoma are Sherry’s cousin Pam and Pam’s husband JR for a week of competitive pistol shooting. We enjoy several nights of laughter together.
Tour the Oklahoma City Federal Building site where a car bomb demolished the building in 1995. This memorial creates plenty of emotion giving tribute to the victims.
Venturing deeper into Oklahoma, we visit Bob’s niece Kathy, and Kathy’s daughter Sara. Such fun people!
Toward the end of July, it’s hot and humid in Texas and Oklahoma, but everyone keeps telling us to wait until August for the real heat! Not being too keen on experiencing more heat and humidity, we ask where would it be cooler? At the same time, an invitation to a friend’s surprise 60th birthday party, Sherry’s dad celebrating his 89th birthday in August, and other things that need taking care of, influence us to turn west and head to Colorado. The cooler weather in Colorado will be a welcome retreat from the humidity and heat we have been experiencing down south.
Taking two-lane roads instead of interstate provides beautiful scenery as we travel through southern Kansas. We spy a license plate “7 of 9”. Trekies will understand when we verify the license plate did not indicate being part of a large family. (For non-Trekies, 7 of 9 is a main character in the Star Trek Voyager series.)
We arrive in Loveland, Colorado. RV parks are full, but our good friends Kraig and Susie invite us to stay on their property while in town. They take us to some excellent hiking in the Colorado mountains. Always fun, especially with two active dogs who love to run!
Great visiting friends and relatives at birthday parties, dinners, and simply a few minutes here or there. Sometimes it feels like we are in a time warp in which time pauses for us while life changes in dramatic ways for some of our friends.
We plan to be in Colorado thru Labor Day weekend, and then to…?
See you next time On Our Adventure!
