Arrive at our next destination: River Park RV in Lompoc, CA. Very nice. Grass areas. Cool weather. Great neighbors Pasco and Barbara. Enjoy margaritas several evenings with them. Our first missile launch! 11:00 am from Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc.
Getting to Jalama Beach involves driving 24 miles on a twisty dead-end road, but soooo worth it! Secluded, magnificent views, and I get to enjoy a romantic walk along the beach with Sherry.
After we leave, everyone we met could not believe we did not eat a Jalama Burger while at the beach. They say the burgers are the best! So, be sure to enjoy a Jalama Burger when you’re there.
Mail delivery can be a challenge for people like us who are on the move all the time. Turns out the U.S. Postal Service has an answer: General Delivery! Mail is addressed to the local post office where we pick it up – without the expense or trouble of renting a mailbox short term. The Post Office is going broke, but it sure provides some great services.
Lompoc (pronounced lom-poke!) displays wonderful art and appreciation of history. Wandering around downtown, artists painted 33 beautiful murals on the sides of buildings. Lompoc museum displays wonderful history of the town and the archeology in the area.
More great bicycle rides with Sherry. Drove to Mike’s runs excellent bicycle shop in Newbury (npbikeshop.com) to get a few extra items for Sherry’s bike. Highly recommend him for your biking needs.
Lompoc is a wonderful town. We are glad we are staying here, and will likely stay two full weeks here, and get past the Labor Day weekend camping rush.
